Raja Ravi
Varma paintings- Indian Heritage
The pictures
given here are 18 th century Indian traditional paintings by Raja Ravi Varma(1848-1906).
He is famous for his paintings based on Indian Mythology and epics.Indian
traditions was first mixed by him with
European academic art.He is mostly remembered for his paintings of sari-clad
women. One of the paintings by Raja ravi Varma is Lord Vishnu. He is also known
as Narayana and Hari. Lakshmi (God for wealth)is the wife of Vishnu.
Vishnu( the Supreme God for Hindus)is suppoed to take manifest forms
or avatars across various ages or periods to save humanity from evil beings, demons
or Asuras, who
became powerful after receiving boons from Shiva.
According to the extant Hindu texts and traditions, Lord Vishnu is considered
to be resident in the direction of the "Makara Rashi" (the
"Shravana Nakshatra"), which is about coincident with the Capricorn
constellation.
As our parent’s house is 100 years old, and uncared due to some unavoidable reasons, it is about to be demolished. The collection
of paintings in the house has been shared among
blood relatives (sons and daughters of my father).Few paintings have
been given to me. I would like to sell them out for the benefit of my children,
as there is no room for display. Those who are really interested may contact me
through e-mail (meydhanam@gmail.con).
