Postage Stamp Dinomination:0.20 ps
Postal Stamp Name: Sri Ramkrishna Paramhamsa
A great spiritual luminary of India of the 19th century, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa was born of poor but pious parents at Kamarpukur in Wext Bengal on the 18th February, 1936. From a very early age, he showed signs of a spiritual bent of mind. The first experience of 'Samadhi' came to him when he was about ten years old- it was inspired by the sight of a flight of cranes under a dark-blue cloud. He spent major part of his life in the temple of Kali at Dakshineshwar, a suburb of Calcutta. . Kali became a living companion to this young man who, to all appearance, was mad. In his 23rd year he was married to a young girl, Sarada, but their life remained free from physical pleasures. Sri Sarada Devi affectionately known as the Holy Mother, accepted him as her Guru and carried on the work as laid down by him. Having successfully practised the discipline of the various religious cults of India and proved the efficacy of different paths in realising God, his attention was turned to the faiths of Islam and Christianity. His efforts were rewarded with the realisation of the Divine.  Narendranath  who later became the world-famous Swami Vivekanand, was one of the most important disciples of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa and after the Master's passing away on 16th August, 1886, he founded the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa symbolised the efflorescence of the Indian spiritual life. The unity in diversity still alive in India because of the spreading of social moral linked with faith on god by Ramkrishna Math. The P & T Department feels honoured to bring out a commemorative stamp of this prophet of New India.

Queen stamps

Estimated value: US$488,900
Canada's 12 Pence Black was issued in 1851 and features a portrait of the youthful Queen Victoria. It is one of the most famous stamps in the world.
Altogether, 51,000 copies of the 12 Pence Black were printed, but due to its high denomination, only 1,450 copies were sold. The remaining unsold 49,550 copies of the stamp were taken off the market and destroyed in 1857. It is believed that about 100-150 pieces of this stamp exist today, but this is mere speculation.
In 2011, a brand new copy of the 12 Pence Black was auctioned off for US$488,900 in New York, USA.

Estimated value: US$5 million
The UK's 1840 issued Penny Black is the first stamp in the world. It was designed by Rowland Hill, who proposed the reform of the British postal system. He was called the Father of the Postage Stamp.
Before the Penny Black was issued, post offices had to take payments for mail delivery in cash. People had to wait in line to deliver every piece of mail. Postage was charged by the number of letter papers and the amount of distance traveled. Following Rowland Hill's suggestion, a letter was wrapped in an extra piece of paper (envelope) and an adhesive stamp was attached to indicate the prepayment of postage. The stamp was the Penny Black.
The picture in the stamp shows Queen Victoria, based on a sketch of her by William Wyon when she visited London in 1837. The Penny Black Stamp was only used for one year because the red cancellation mark was hard to spot on its black background. As a result of this, nine months later, the stamp was reprinted as a red stamp so that the black cancellation marks were easier to see and harder to remove.
The Penny Black was scheduled to be issued on May 6. However, in some cities, a number of the copies were issued on May 2. Only two pieces of the early issue can be found now and these are regarded as real treasures. A few years ago, a rich businessman bought a copy from a US auction house at the price of US$5 million.

The rarity and error in prints of the old and rare stamps determine its price In the entire stamp world British queen stamps are quite large in mumber, since many countries issued such stamps when they were under their colonization.Very fast progress in civilization  and scientific approach for their defence and offence helped them to conquer many nations and organized colonization worldover. The concept of ‘the survival of the fittest’  was pointed out by them to all the people..
The queen stamps are so beauty to look at.Some of the queen  stamps that I have are shown below.

Raja Ravi Varma paintings- Indian Heritage

Raja Ravi Varma paintings- Indian Heritage
The pictures given here are 18 th century Indian traditional paintings by Raja Ravi Varma(1848-1906). He is famous for his paintings based on Indian Mythology and epics.Indian traditions was first mixed  by him with European academic art.He is mostly remembered for his paintings of sari-clad women. One of the paintings by Raja ravi Varma is Lord Vishnu. He is also known as Narayana and Hari. Lakshmi (God for wealth)is the wife of Vishnu.
Vishnu( the Supreme God  for Hindus)is suppoed to take manifest forms or avatars across various ages or periods to save humanity from evil beings, demons or Asuras, who became powerful after receiving boons from Shiva. According to the extant Hindu texts and traditions, Lord Vishnu is considered to be resident in the direction of the "Makara Rashi" (the "Shravana Nakshatra"), which is about coincident with the Capricorn constellation.

Ram Dharbar coin

Ram Dharbar coin

Very few  old coins are not only rare but also have some historical and ethical background. In this aspect the Ram Dharbar coin is the foremost and oldest of all.
Rama is well known as hero of Ramayana (an Indian ethics). He is supposed to be a standing example to the world how a man should be. By living, he conveyed some meaningful messages to the eternal society. A woman for a man, living as monogamy is always best to avoid AID, always be ready to fight against illegal activities and crime.
Ram Dharbar coin is the only remainder to keep this message among people. It is a picturesque piece.
It can be considered as a valuable gift of divinity. Possession of such a coin corrects oneself internally by generating good thoughts and guides in a right way externally.

I have a Ram Dharbar coin, the photo of which is herewith given for your view. It was kept in the prayer room of my grand parents. For the benefit of my children and grand children I want to sell it out. Those who are really interested to  buy may contact me though email:meydhanam@gmailcom.

tanjore paintings

krishnaTanjore painting
THANJAVUR PAINTING is a peculiar, ancient, miniature type of painting named after the place Thanjavur [called Tanjore in English] in Tamil Nadu, a southern state of INDIA.   Thanjavur district is famous for various arts and crafts in which paintings are ranked high among the other arts like Thanjavur Toys, Thanjavur Plates, etc. Its origin dates back to the Nayak & the Marathaperiod in the 16th century.

A typical Thanjavur painting would consist of one main figure, a deity, with a well-rounded body & almond shaped eyes. This figure would be housed in an enclosure created by means of an arch, curtains etc. The painting would be made by the gilded and gem-set technique - a technique where gold leaves & sparkling stones are used to highlight certain aspects of the painting like ornaments, dresses etc.

The painting would be bright & colourful and breathtakingly beautiful. The impact in a darkened room is that of a glowing presence.

Thanjavur Paintings are made on canvasses. The CANVAS for a Thanjavur painting is usually a plank of wood (originally wood of the Jackfruit tree was used, now it's plywood) over which a layer of cloth is pasted with arabic gum. The cloth is then evenly coated with a paste of limestone and a binding medium and let to dry.

Paintings were done on materials like wood, glass, mica, exotic media such as ivory, murals and manuscripts. The early paintings were embedded with real Diamonds, Rubies and other precious stones. Later, use of semi-precious & artificial stones gained popularity.
Gold leaves and gems of varied hues are used in selected areas like pillars, arches, thrones, dresses, etc. The shine and glean of the gold leaves used by the Thanjavur style paintings last forever. Finally, colours are applied on the sketch. In the past, artists used natural colours like vegetable dyes, whereas the present day artists use chemical paints which enhance the sharpness and provide better shade contrasts.

Tanjore paintings were used to decorate the halls and rooms in houses. Now it is used in hotels, shops to attract people. In my father’s house there were few tanjore paintings (original),After my father, I got a share ,two tanjore paintings.shown below. One can see the difference between the  old & original and the present day creations.

rare and old cheque books

Frozen money .Ok.
When it will melt?

My ancestor did business in Saigon, Vietnam before second world war. The war threatened him to run away from the field to his mother country, India. He left abandoned all of his wealth both movable and immovable. When he left Saigon, his bank balance was 9,00,000,00 piastres/dollars(?) in the erstwhile The chartered Bank of India, Australia & China ,Saigon. His account number is 1158 a.
After world war, the bank was nationalized and during the course of its restructure, it was renamed twice. Now it is called by name State Bank of Vietnam. After world war the foreign customers were not allowed to operate their account and the bank did not come forward to pay any compensation to foreign victims.  Money is there in the bank, concerned cheque is in the hand, but every thing becomes illusion after the world war. This is a kind of miracle.
After making few unsuccessful attempts to withdraw cash from the bank account by using cheques, the unlucky cheque book was thrown away and was unnoticed years together. After my father, the cheque book came to my notice. I think, it may be one of the rare and old things, a valuable piece to numismatists .I want to sell it out for the benefit of my children and grand children. Those who are interested to  buy this rare cheque book containing 14 unused cheque leaves out of 25 for a fancy price, may contact me through this email- meydhanam@gmail.com

Gandhi stamp

The name of India was Baratham in ancient time. If anyone wants to call India, now by another name, it should be Gandhi land. Very simple, yet most magnificent man in the whole world in the last century was Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi’s principle is always most powerful to win without any arms against might. The violence is spreading all over the world as people and politicians forget the concept of non-violence physically introduced and insisted by Mahatma Gandhi.
In India, Gandhi is everywhere-in the coin, currency, postal stamps, idols, as city, street, building and residential apartment names, but not in the heart of political people and government staff. “Gandhian thoughts” is existing only as a course of education in some universities but nowhere in the society and culture. Black money, bribe, illegal earnings all are done with currency where Gandhi is laughing. That is way among billions of new arrival in the Gandhi land, none is Gandhi like.

I am so happy to have Gandhi at least in the form of stamps. It becomes rare like “Gandhian thoughts”.

rare and old stamps

I start this blog to exhibit the rare and old stamps in my collection, for the benefit of philatelists world over. I collected stamps when I was doing my Pre-University course in Alagappa College,Karaikudi during 1962-63.But I didn’t spend money, time and take much strain to improve my collection. I simply  put the stamps in covers and stored them as and when they come to me. Now I feel ,I am very poor to care stamps. Many stamps carelessly folded and damaged. I want to sell them out so that they will be cared by the true philatelists. That is why I open this blog.

India is my mother country. I love India but I don’t like the present day political people and the government staff who are always very fond of unofficial income from the public. In fact it is the root cause of diversity in the unity. This diversity is developed more and more strongly since pre history of India. That is why the Indians allowed their lands to rule by foreigners. Physically we speak of unity in diversity everywhere every time but with diversity in unity in mind.
India, when compared to developed countries, is not developed academically, industrially, commercially, agriculturally, socially, but still she is ahead of many other nations because of the blindly followed spirituality by many people both educated and uneducated. That is India is emerging not because of active politicians but because of extremely passive people.
